Thanks for measurements.

So fsync on rotating DASD is ~9x slower for your db-gcc-runtime test (IIUC).

I'm now investigating the effect of fallocate(2) to reserve disk blocks (and prevent ENOSPC returns) on the code path we are iterating upon.
