The ability to replace opendir/readdir/stat/lstat permitted walking remote URI's and are otherwise quite obvious changes.

Go ahead and show me how to use the glibc fts.c to walk remote URI's.

The other reason for internalizing fts.c was an incompatible change to how symlinks were traversed that broke rpm build like 2 weeks away from a release with no ability to change rpm.

All from very ancient memories, almost as ancient as its.c is. Note that its.c in glib has never been well supported. dropper preferred the posix nftw.c

No what exactly is your issue? You don't like what happened a l-o-o-n-g time ago? That isn't a bug.
