I should also point out that %_buildsubdir, used to implicitly add "cd %_buildsubdir" into templates, is set dynamically as a side effect of parsing %setup.

The dynamic instantiation is a rather severe constraint on a fully functional intuitively sane build scriptlet templating system.

Legacy code debt is painful sometimes.
