Ok, this really does need a status update.

We're not going to merge this as-is in any case, so don't waste your time updating the PR for the new brp-disabling style or otherwise. It's impossible to properly review this many scripts in one PR, and  distros would be really unhappy with such a huge pile of possibly build-breaking changes at once. Distros need to manage such things at their own pace.

What we *will* do is we'll look at what the various distros are doing in this regard and merge the best of the most common things. For example automated ldconfig is pretty much everywhere but everybody's been reinventing the wheel. That just doesn't make any sense.

Second, we think there should be a kind of contrib repo for the rest  (ie the less common bits) with looser rules of what can be added, from which distros can pick and choose as they see fit but there would then at least be a common place for the stuff. Same goes for dependency generators BTW.
