Okay, we're down to reverting just two things that even I can see being harmful:

1) According to  #425, the armv8 architectures were added mostly for symmetry with armv7 which is an entirely different beast, but turns out this actually breaks things.
2) There's no such architecture as "arm64", there's just "aarch64" no matter how much people dislike the name. I fully expect Arm to release another 64bit architecture with a different name one day and we'd look pretty damn stupid in the corner we've painted ourselves into. That other projects chose to do that, it's their problem.
