<p>It does fix the case of quotes, but technically a newline is a legitimate character in file names too, even if even very rare. Why not use -print0 / -0 which eliminates the problem once and for all? Even xargs manual suggests that:</p>

         simply newline-separated items, although  it  is  almost  always
         better to design your program to use --null where this is possible.

<p>Even "file" supports the null-terminated string syntax, for a reason.</p>
