Have you confirmed that the tarball actually contains a top directory named "nagios-3.4.1" ? I'm not familiar with this particular package, but I would first untar it and double check it's directory/file structure. In my experiences, I've found that the package source is often tarred up incorrectly and needs to be redone with the appropriately named top directory. From the output, I can't see any other possibility.
