And it was meant to "solve" another problem, but I never understood
how it really did. The basic problem is that the namespacing of
macros seems to be erratic at best, such that simple things like, the
command line overriding definitions of macros does not always work in
all cases.
This is likely one of the more non-intuitive areas of rpm (i.e. its
macro langauge), which is not to say its completely broken but some
smoothing out of things could be done to be sure.
