Florian,
 It accounts for some very interesting behavior that happens for
kernel-modules updates for openafs. It also accounts for some 'yum
silently removes foo' bugs I've run into. The obsoletes-on-provides is
pretty magical and causes a lot of unexpected behavior in my experience.
