As an independent software vendor, we would LOOOVVVE not to have to roll
Our own.  It is a fulltime job for me and I am sure there are many other
Things my company has for me to do.  I have been lurking on this list
For a year and a half.  In a future post, I will be putting together
A list of issues my company( Saint Jude Medical ) has confronted just
Moving from one version of RedHat to another.  We have to tightly
Control the configuration of the systems we ship on account of these
Compatibility issues both hardware and software.

Yes.  Integrate support for Suse's metapackage format into all distros
via PackageKit.  I don't know if that'll fly, but it's the best hope I
can see.

If we can make the standard packaging options slick enough, it might
start convincing a few of the holdouts that still think they need their
own installers.
