[Rpm-maint] Scalability of RPM

Hi Christoph,

I am currently working on the scalability issues in rpm. Unfortunately
they are not very easy to fix. Huge numbers of files and large numbers
(>1000) of files with the same base name trigger these problems. If you
have a different situation I would be very interested how it looks like.

You can try if the rpm versions in Fedora 9 or even Fedora 10 alpha work
better for you. There have been a lot of bug fixes including fixes for
memory problems/leaks. But the main scalability problem is still unsolved.

Backup your rpmdb (/var/lib/rpm) and then delete /var/lib/rpm/__db.*
(temporary files that depend on the exact version of rpm/the bsddb)

Florian
