Yes we're perfectly aware of calgrind and how to use it, thank you very much. Also we're quite aware that yes there are many places left to optimize, and that last years signature/digest/hdrblob refactoring made this ever so much worse. We'll get to it when we get to it, in the meanwhile patches to address specific issues would be considered.
