Considering this is something we'd need to apply to all our brp-scripts, it's scarily complicated and fragile looking. That's not so much a criticism to the PR but more about running into limits of what's reasonably feasible in what is supposed to be a simple shell-script.

An allegedly far simpler approach would simply be disabling parallelism in presence of hardlinks. How much simpler that would be in practise I dunno, haven't tried. Sometimes trying to avoid the complicated thing ends up being even more complicated :laughing:
