I think the request is quite clear — a way to disable verbose mode. I want stderr to have useful messages, not forced debug info that’s impossible to disable. My builds are automated and rarely fail. If it does fail, I’ll want to re-run it manually anyway.

What you’re saying makes sense, but it should be up to the user how the software operates. That shouldn’t need a use case to justify, especially for a change that‘s going to amount to maybe a dozen lines including tests. I’d gladly contribute the code if I could write C to professional standards.
