Maybe I wasn't clear: I get that someone might want something between the full verbose output and the quiet mode as they are now, but the question is, what exactly is "useful messages" in that output? To me, if you're not interested in the environment that is revealed by verbose scriptlets then you're likely not interested in the compiler output either, ie it either works or doesn't.

One possible idea may be adding an option to direct just the scriptlet output to a separate location, including but not limited to /dev/null.
