Hmm, the original case doesn't have anything to do with multifile protocol specifically - the original path and reproducer was on rhel-9 with rpm 4.16 which doesn't know anything about multifile.

Just checked and this is indeed equally reproducable with this test turned to non-multifile. Having an explicit test for multifile is a good thing, the only thing that needs adjusting here is the commit message which suggests bc0b94026bc5651435819043394cbe9a766a4fd5 was multifile specific.
