Argh, indeed, thanks for catching this. I was too focused on multifile here that I'd completely forgotten about the original use case, of course. It's easier to reproduce/test this with multifile because the generator doesn't have to maintain state (in order to remember the *first* incoming filename), which is why I used that, actually.

I could write a sibling test that does this with*out* the multifile protocol, but that's probably not worth the trouble here. So I'll just fix the commit message as suggested.
