OK, turns out this is caused somewhere between c00d8a0ed32169baf82cd0a34ffd1c9377b09c38 (last good) and 08a6a5e848f007c2e8d83fc1df8712d1a43229f4 (know broken). So during converting the finger printing code to C++. Some intermediate patches don't build and so the whole set needs to be examine more closely.
