Yeah a version file would probably be sufficiently straightforward. My point basically is that it should to be possible to change a file and have it reflect the built version in a 100% predictable manner., without involving git. Don't try to be too clever with it :sweat_smile: That a devel snapshot needs git access is relevant to a handful of people in the world.
