Hmm, if nothing else, we have a global default for `%prep` and that is certainly expected to be overridable. And, similar things could exist on per-buildsystem level of course too.
So whatever the reason for omitting that case (I have a feeling it wasn't a plain oversight) was wrong on at least that account, and it seems appropriate to document this.
