Sorry but NAK, we're not going to replace simple code with ugly macros to save a few bytes, the memory use during build is not an issue in itself.

I guess this relates to the good old fork() issue at dependency generation during kernel builds where the normally uninteresting page table copying becomes an issue. The multifile dependency generator protocol was developed for pretty much that exact case after a lot of pressure from you folks, to address the root cause. Please adopt that.
